In the context of the call for proposals for the 375th anniversary of Montreal, the LUMI project was selected by the 375th committee.
LUMI’s objective is to create bridges between the different actors of Montreal and their urban activities. It animates the top of Montreal’s skyscrapers with choreographed lights and puts poetry in the Montreal sky.
On each participating building is installed a canvas of LED lighting devices. The whole of the buildings compose and shape a diffusion canvas on the scale of the city. The light experience offered makes Montreal and its buildings shine.
Depending on the urban pulse and its calendar, different modes of expression offer the possibility of varied, fascinating, spectacular, enriching and evolving night landscapes.
Among these modes, the ‘standby’ mode is an animated work, light fluctuations of organic forms, slow, harmonious, crowning the downtown.
The ‘building’ mode features the buildings of Montreal. It is the mode of identity. It allows the expression of the singular character of each tower through its illumination, its history, its architecture, its life and its business relations.
The ‘interactivity’ mode brings a sense of belonging to its tenants that has never been so strong. In image as in fact, this mode represents an exceptional benefit for the actors involved.
The urban signature is a luminous material. It is organic and alive. The luminous matter is transformed in its materiality, in its color and in its rhythm.
